I am an abstract landcape painter. I have traveled extensively and I am very much interested in conveying a sense of time of day and location from various perspectives. Most recently I have been interested in aerial landscape and the sense of pattern that such a perspective conveys. I work primarily in oil on canvas and mostly recently I have been working on wood panels and have incorporated more drawing elements and resin finishes. Additionally, as a long time resident of Maui, Hawaii I am always taken by the beauty of fragility of such an island environment--therefore, environmental or conservational issues are paramount in my thinking, finding its way in to much of the concepts of my abstract landscape work.
I am currently working on two concurrent bodies of work. The first incorporates the organic forms inherent in the wood panel and juxtaposed with the scientific man-made forms of architecture and modeling line forms. The second body that I am working on focuses on flat color forms that allows the creation of space inherent in with corresponding chroma negation or diffusion. Look for both of these bodies of works to be posted as I work on them in this later part of 2010 and early 2011.
